Further proof the Cowboys are dumb

This story is a couple weeks old but you know what? Stories about how dumb the Dallas Cowboys are don’t ever lose their freshness. Here’s what happened: The Dallas Cowboys don’t own the domain name “cowboys.com”, someone else does. Dallas has “DallasCowboys.com”, which of course makes sense but in all likelihood they are losing out on a significant amount of traffic by not having “cowboys.com” as well. . Recently though the domain was put up for sale and the Cowboy’s thought they had it won…except they thought they were buying it for $275 when the real price was $275,000:

Rumors are circulating that the sale for the domain name Cowboys.com will not be moving forward. The domain name brought in a $275,000 bid from a phone-in bidder at the recent TRAFFIC domain live auction in Hollywood, Florida. The bidder had been earlier identified to be a representative from the Dallas Cowboys NFL team. An inside source confirmed with DomainNameNews that the deal began to fall apart over a misunderstanding with the bidder on what the bid of “275? actually meant. It appears the bidder thought they were buying the domain for $275.00 rather than $275,000.

Ah yes, the difference between $275 and $275,000 is, to say the least, quite large. Quite a mix-up. Never fear though dear reader, this story has a happy ending: Some other people ended up paying $370,000 for “cowboys.com” and Dallas had to go home empty-handed. Serves them right.
