Ken Rosenthal is reporting that Steve Trachsel has been traded to the Cubs for Class AAA right-handed reliever Rocky Cherry and Class AAA third baseman Scott Moore. Thank God the O’s got something for Trachsel, its not like he fit into next year’s plans.

Don Banks put up a piece sorting out how he thinks all the divisions will shake out and he’s picked the Skins to finish 3rd in the East behind the Eagles and the Cowboys. Here’s what he had to say:
A reason to believe: The Redskins’ defense still seems almost afraid of takeaways, but Washington will put a better product on the field with the addition of rookie safety LaRon Landry and free-agent linebacker London Fletcher, and the return to health of tackle Cornelius Griffin.
The thing that makes you nervous: That Redskins offensive line, which was bolstered via a trade last week for veteran left guard Pete Kendall. With starting left tackle Chris Samuels missing the entire preseason with a knee injury, the line’s early play could be pivotal in how things start off this year for both young quarterback Jason Campbell and the Washington running game.
Add Banks to the list of people who’ll be eating crow when we win the division.
Even though he defected to the hated Yankees (I blame this more on Angelos then Moose) I still have a special place in my heart for Mike Mussina. It pains me to see this once great pitcher fall on such hard times: He’s being dumped from the Yankee’s rotation (for one start at least) in favor of young stud Ian Kennedy. I feel for ya Moose….but I’m also kinda glad things didn’t work out that great for you in New York.
Even though I meant it when I said I’d never talk about The Game That Shall Not Be Mentioned….I have to break that vow (for this post only!) just because there have been some interesting tidbits of info that I’ve read since and I might as well mention them. To wit:
-Wes Littleton actually got a save in the game. Littleton entered the game in the 7th (when the score was 14-3) and was awarded a save. This is absurd, isn’t this up to the scorekeepers discretion? (via With Leather)
- Via The Big Lead, the great Ken Rosenthal (former Baltimore Sun employee, by the by) used The Game That Shall Never Be Mentioned Again as a good opportunity to absolutely destroy the O’s.
Good times.
A website dedicated to half time shows wouldn’t be a bad idea.
This list was put together during the whole Kevin Durant bench pressing hub bub but its still interesting to see what a variety of celebs and athletes max bench is. (via Deadspin)
…supporters of Art Monk, Andre Reed, Andre Tippett and the late Derrick Thomas should be happy this morning. Their guys have a better chance to get into the Hall of Fame today than they did a week ago.
In the last four years, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has had a maximum of six slots open for entry. But in each of those years, two Seniors Committee candidates were up for entry, and seven of those eight total players have been enshrined. What that means is that only four spots were then available for modern-era candidates. Last week, the Hall announced the maximum annual class would increase from six to seven members, with this proviso: The maximum modern era class each year would be five. If either or both of the Senior candidates were not elected, no more than five of the modern guys would get in.
Cut out the gobbledygook, and this is what just happened: The backlog of worthy candidates should begin to break. As one of the selectors, I’ve seen a thaw in the borderline candidates, starting with the election of Harry Carson a couple of years ago. And I would be surprised if guys such as Monk, Tippett, Charles Haley and Richard Dent (and Thomas, for that matter) continued to get shut out. I’m not saying all of them will get in. They won’t, at least not in the immediate future. But now at least there’s a chance for a seven-man class each year.
My guess is that Monk and Tippett, of the candidates who have been on the bubble in the past few years, have the best shot of breaking through in 2008.
The Hall also has okayed increasing the number of selectors from 40 to 50, to be phased in gradually over the next few years. This year the room will have 44 voters. That’s good if you think — as many of you do — that the limited number of voters has had too much power over the process, and more voters should cut down on the prejudices that keep some candidates from entry. Personally, I don’t think it will matter much, but we’ll see.
About freaking time. Monk not being in the Hall of Fame is an outrage.
You’ve heard of the Madden Curse. But what about the Chunky Soup Curse? It’s all here. (via Hashmarks)
